Greens Farms Academy Breaks Ground On New Athletics & Wellness Center

“We know that when we make good on our promise to know and love our students, we can manifest launch pads for mission moments like this one,” said Head of School Bob Whelan during a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 19. “The future site of the Athletics and Wellness Center holds so much promise for competition, collaboration, social and emotional growth, and for building the best versions of ourselves.”

In addition to Whelan, the event brought together current and former trustees, architect Roger Ferris, student leaders, Claris Construction representatives, and faculty members to recognize this ambitious campus enhancement.

From the school’s announcement:

The state-of-the-art facility will span 30,000 square feet and feature two full-size basketball courts, two wrestling rooms, two additional squash courts with viewing galleries, a life-fitness center and training room. Designed to provide optimal scheduling flexibility, the new center will support academic activities, games, and practices across all levels while also enabling the school to enhance its summer programming.

The AWC emerges from a comprehensive master facilities plan and Strategic Direction developed by the school’s Board of Trustees in 2021. This addition to campus follows the expansion of Lower School facilities, including a new dining and student commons and a renovated assembly room, which opened last year.

These transformative projects are being funded through GFA’s Centennial Campaign, which will officially launch in the fall of 2025 as the school approaches its 100th anniversary.

The groundbreaking signals an exciting new phase of growth for Greens Farms Academy, reinforcing its commitment to make space and time to collaborate as the school fulfills its mission for the next century.
